The Role:

As the System Accountant, you’ll play a vital role in managing and optimising our financial software, ensuring our systems run smoothly and effectively.

  • Ensure financial systems accurately reflect financial data, enabling efficient reporting and analysis through maintaining system efficiency and optimisation.
  • Evaluate, develop and maintain financial system processes to support, deliver and enhance the business needs they support.
  • Drive new initiatives and finance practices leveraging the functionality within and across the finance systems.
  • Design, plan, test and implement new system features to improve new and existing business processes.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and manage system upgrades with software vendors, finance, IT and Business Excellence teams.
  • Manage the configuration and maintenance of the finance system, including workflows, chart of accounts, positing rules and security settings.
  • Perform regular audits of financial systems and data to ensure compliance with Synod Office policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide training and support to finance (and other departments) on the use of financial systems, developing training materials and documentation to support ongoing training and support.
  • Support the existing suit of Power BI reports, engaging with the finance team and other Synod Office stakeholders to develop new Power BI reports to meet the changing needs of the organisation.
  • Act as the super-user for the Synod Office’s finance systems, responding to and providing system tech support for system-related queries and issues.
  • Act as the point of contract with software vendors for system issues within budget.

Your Background:

  • A relevant degree in Accounting, Finance, IT, or a related field.
  • National Police Check
  • Ideally, a CPA qualification (or working towards one).
  • A deep understanding of finance principles, with at least 5 years’ experience supporting financial systems.
  • Experience with financial systems like Power BI, Microsoft Dynamics, Business Central, Power On Budgeting, and Xero.
  • A problem-solving mindset and the ability to analyse and simplify complex systems.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A genuine desire to support a faith-based, not-for-profit organisation in achieving its mission.
