Assistant Accountant
ABOUT THE POSITION
Seeking a capable assistant accountant to join our finance team to assist with the accounting, bookkeeping and payroll functions of the organisation. This is 12-month fixed term contract with the possibility of conversion to permanent employment as our organisation grows.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, your key responsibilities will be to:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial accounts
- Assist with external audit and regulatory reporting
- Prepare end-of-month journal entries for review
- Prepare charges between cost-centres
- Assist with the processing of fortnightly payroll
- Assist with HR/payroll tasks, compliance and reporting
- Assist with accounts payable and receivable functions
- Undertake bank, cash-on-hand and other office tasks as required
- Document finance-related processes
You will also contribute to finance team discussions to help improve the way we do things.

ABOUT YOU
The type of person we are looking for will be reliable, articulate and a strong team player. They will be flexible to assume tasks as required and enjoy collaborating with others to get things done. They must also be sensitive and well suited to working in a Christian aged care and retirement village setting.
While we are more than happy to employ and train the right person, experience working in aged care or retirement living would be an advantage, as would knowledge of the Inerva software package.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Alignment to the aims, philosophy and mission of a strongly Christian organisation
- Problem solving skills and a can-do attitude
- Great interpersonal communication skills
- Proven ability to efficiently manage themselves and collaborate with other staff
- The ability to relate well to a broad range of people – residents, staff, suppliers and visitors
Skills/Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, formulas and data presentation
- Experience in a similar accounting-based role
- Excellent verbal and written English skills, with the willingness and ability to document processes
- Aged care and/or retirement village experience (preferred)
Applicant Requirements:
- You must be an Australian citizen or show evidence of Australian work rights
- You must be able to pass a Police Check / NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
- You must demonstrate intermediate-level competency in Microsoft Excel
HOURS
This is a permanent part-time role (0.6 FTE):
- 22.5 hours per week
- Monday/Tuesday each payroll fortnight is required
- Some flexibility with remaining days
