The IJM Australia Advancement Office was established in 2014 to fuel IJM’s global mission by mobilising Australians’ resources and influence to protect people living in poverty from violence.

 

The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. Nine out of nine times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50% and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Donor Relationship Officer to manage and cultivate a portfolio of donors.

This position is based in Sydney - Australia, Hybrid, and reports to Philanthropy Manager.

 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation:

  1. Develop and manage a portfolio of approximately 600 - 700 Mid-level Donors with a tiered approach. Leverage relationship-based moves management strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors towards deeper financial engagement with IJM.
  2. Work closely with the Business Intelligence Team to effectively tier donor portfolio based on activity and capacity.
  3. Develop, execute and grow a donor engagement strategy including the following elements at the tier and donor level:
    1. Donor giving history and future revenue goals.
    2. Donor contact plan via phone, email, mail and some in-person or virtual contact which may be individual or in a group.
    3. Marketing and communications touch points.
    4. Donor passions, interest identification, and understanding individual donor communication preferences.
    5. Relationship-based moves management plan activities.
    6. Attract, convert and retain new Mid-level Donors.
  4. Develop and execute lapsed donor strategies to financially re-engage Mid-level Donors.
  5. Ensure increased donor retention, donor value retention, giving and movement of relationship qualified donors to Major Donor portfolio.
  6. In order to grow the Mid-level Donor portfolio, actively research potential donors from within the existing mass segment and create new opportunities through external research on strategies and prospects.
  7. Work with relevant team members to cultivate and retain monthly Freedom Partners.

Networking & Partnership:

  1. Build professional and trust-based relationships with Mid-level Donors through a variety of communication strategies.
  2. Participate in agreed training courses relevant to Mid-level donor segment.

Communication:

  1. Develop and execute innovative Mid-level Donor communication & engagement strategies in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Team.
  2. Share donor insights and feedback with Marketing & Communications team to inform content creation, advertising strategies, and campaign performance optimisation.
  3. Qualify Mid-level Donors for movement to the Major Donor Relationship Managers and facilitate smooth relationship transition.
  4. Work closely with the Marketing & Communications team to leverage joint communications for Mid-level Donor audience and ensure communications maintain a unified voice and are consistent with brand guidelines.

Documentation, Reporting & Data Management:

  1. Report activity and progress against plans to the Philanthropy Manager.
  2. Responsible for data hygiene, including logging donor interactions, portfolio management, donor communications, forecasting and results analysis.
  3. Report KPIs with the support of Business Intelligence around increased donor retention, donor value retention, giving and movement of relationship qualified donors to Major Donor and Planned Giving levels.

 

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 3+ years of proven experience delivering results in a fundraising or sales, fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Proven track record of effectiveness as a collaborator on cross-functional teams.
  • Experience managing, tracking and reporting on the financial efforts of a donor portfolio.

 Technical Competencies:

  • Experience with donor cultivation, donor portfolio and moves management.
  • Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills and mail merge experience is a plus.

Critical Qualities:

  • Strong donor cultivation or customer service experience, and high-level interpersonal skills.
  • Strong administrative skills and high-level attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, organised and disciplined to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Natural ability to influence and clearly articulate information.
  • High EQ and CQ, discretion, self-awareness, and the ability to relate to a diverse range of donors.
  • Demonstrated interest in global issues and non-profit work.
  • Creative and innovative mindset to advance program goals.
  • Ability to think strategically and take decisive action to grow a program or project.
