Team Leader – WA -  Bookkeeping, Payroll & Accounting

About Us

Baptist Business Services (BBS) is a dedicated team of experienced bookkeepers, accountants, and registered BAS agents who understand the unique needs of Christian ministries.  BBS is part of the broader Baptist Financial Services (BFS) Group.  Our mission is to see Christian ministry flourish by providing a strong foundation of financial administration that enables growth and long-term sustainability of churches and other Christian organsiations.

About the Role

We’re looking for a reliable and experienced Team Leader to play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing a team of bookkeepers and accountants located in Perth to ensure the efficient delivery of bookkeeping and business support services to WA clients.  This position reports to the overall BBS National Manager.   The position involves a mix of leadership, technical expertise, and client relationship management.  The Team Leader will ensure that all bookkeeping tasks are performed accurately, on time and in compliance with applicable regulations, while fostering a collaborative working environment, within the team and with other teams.   They will also contribute to the ongoing development of process and service improvements working with the National Manager, other team leaders and the team more broadly.

Key Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Lead and manage a team of accountants and bookkeepers, providing guidance, training and support.
  • Allocate and manage workloads to ensure efficient task completion
  • Recruitment and selection and onboarding of new staff in consultation with BBS National Manager.
  • To be the trusted advisor, manager and mentor for professional staff.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive and productive work environment encouraging a culture of open communication and collaboration, including with other BBS teams and BFS.

Client Service and Relationship Management

  • Serve as the main point of contact for high value WA clients or escalations, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction
  • Undertake relevant bookkeeping and administrative service tasks for clients as necessary
  • Maintain strong client relationships, identify opportunities to add value, and respond to client feedback
  • Review and approve client reports, financial statements, and deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with the overall BBS National Manager and other BBS state offices to support integrated client solutions and collaborate regarding client needs and concerns to foster continuity and consistent approaches to technical issues and work processes.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure all client deliverables meet quality standards and comply with regulatory requirements and BBS policies and technical advice.
  • Perform quality control checks on deliverables
  • Stay updated on industry changes, technology advancements, and compliance requirements

Process Improvement and Efficiency

  • Review and improve existing processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy and client service quality and to align to BBS processes nationally, co ordinating with the BBS General Manager and other teams.
  • Keep updated with industry standards and best practices, sharing insights with the team

Reporting and Operational Oversight

  • Prepare operational and client reports of all BBS WA team clients for BBS General Manager, BFS CEO and where required the BBS or BFS boards.
  • Ensure all documentation, policies, and procedures are updated as required
  • Plan and coordinate workflows to ensure that deadlines are met and client priorities are addressed.

 

What We’re Looking For:

Knowledge & Experience

  • Holds relevant accounting qualifications and a strong background in accounting principles, financial reporting and tax regulations
  • Strong Xero experience and a familiarity with accounts payable and HR systems
  • People management experience with proven experience in managing, mentoring and motivating a team
  • BAS Agent certification
