Position: Head of the Mental Health Institute (MHI)
Location: Sydney CBD, NSW
Hours: 0.6-1.0 FTE
Salary Range- Base salary starting from 120,000 (Full Time Equivalent), depending on experience, expertise, and qualifications.

Are you passionate about facilitating mental wellbeing and promoting an informed and compassionate response to mental health challenges within the church? Anglican Deaconess Ministries (ADM) is seeking a dynamic Head of their Mental Health Institute to provide thought leadership, develop resources, deliver training and engage in other activities to fulfil the mission of the Institute and oversee and manage its work.
✨ What you'll do:
As the Head of the Mental Health Institute, you will provide thought leadership that promotes a sound evangelical theological understanding of mental health and pastoral care needs, create and deliver resources and training, and engage with churches, clinicians and the broader community in the work of understanding and promoting theologically and psychologically informed responses to mental health challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversight: Oversee and manage the work of the MHI, including relevant MHI support staff, in order to fulfil the mission of the Institute
- Thought Leadership: Promote and teach a sound evangelical theological understanding of mental health and pastoral care needs in the Sydney Diocese of the Anglican Church and across churches and Christian communities in Australia;
- Church and Community Engagement: Connect with churches, clinicians and the broader community to identify and understand mental health trends and developments;
- Resource Creation and Delivery: Develop and deliver content to promote mental wellbeing and facilitate informed and compassionate responses to Christians experiencing mental health challenges;
- Collaboration: Work in partnership with others in research and teaching opportunities in the areas of mental health and pastoral care.
🎓 What you bring:
- You have a mature and vibrant Christian faith and alignment with ADM’s Statement of Faith, mission and values.
- You have a Masters qualification in theology or psychology and preferably tertiary education in both theology and psychology/counselling/social work.
- You’re experienced in developing educational resources and delivering adult education.
- You have a proven history of project development and implementation.
- You have excellent written communication skills and a history of publication.
- You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working alongside others.
- You bring creativity, and a commitment to excellence.
