About the organisation
Word Investments Limited (WIL) is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, a Registered Charity with the ACNC and an approved CMA Standards Council member. Its Board is elected by the members of the company.
WIL operates successful funeral businesses in both Victoria and Queensland and is committed to providing professional Christ-like care, showing compassion to grieving families through Bethel Funerals, Logan Funerals and Compassionate Funerals Queensland.
WIL is currently reviewing its long-term strategic direction to pursue investing in other activities that align with our Christian ethos enabling us to continue distributing funds to support mission, humanitarian and community work.

About the vacancy
- The WIL Board guides the organisation’s strategy, growth, and direction and ensures compliance with board duties and obligations. The Board is responsible for operating in a manner that is consistent with its Statement of Faith. This is a voluntary position with expenses reimbursed.
To be successful in this role, a Director will:
- Have a strong interest and/or experience in mission, finance, business operations, and NFP sector;
- Be highly accomplished in and have a proven track record in at least one of the following areas: financial management; HR and business management.
- Contribute to board strategy development and decision-making and fulfil governance responsibilities including legal, ethical, fiduciary, risk, and financial duties;
- Have experience in and understanding of Board Governance responsibilities; and
- Contribute to 5-6 board/strategy meetings a year; and participate in a Board Committee.
As a skills-based Board and in line with current specific requirements, candidates with skills in at least one of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- Finance and Risk management.

- Be motivated by the challenge and opportunity of contributing to the established purposes of WIL.

Educational requirements
ESSENTIAL - Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field with significant industry experience
DESIRABLE - Successful completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course
Other attributes
Active involvement in a local Church community and an understanding of the NFP sector.
