General Manager

Meridan Community Centre

Role Purpose

The General Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, activation and operational oversight of Meridan Community Centre (MCC).

This role exists to ensure the Centre is a thriving, sustainable and community-focused asset that serves both MCC's mission and the wider Sunshine Coast community. The General Manager will provide leadership across facility operations, community engagement, partnerships, business development, systems and team coordination, creating an environment where people, programs and organisations can flourish.

Working closely with church leadership, staff, volunteers and community stakeholders, the General Manager will identify opportunities to increase utilisation, strengthen community impact, improve operational effectiveness and maximise the value of existing Centre assets.

The role is responsible for moving the Centre beyond the administration of bookings and facilities, towards the intentional activation and stewardship of a dynamic community hub that supports ministry, community connection, wellbeing, learning, recreation and long-term sustainability.

Success in this role will be demonstrated through increased community engagement, stronger partnerships, improved utilisation of facilities, enhanced customer experience, effective operational systems and the sustainable growth of Centre activities and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Growth - Actively grow revenue across existing and new business areas, including facility utilisation, Centre Partner programs, hospitality operations and other community-based services.
  • Financial Health - Oversee all revenue and expense channels across the centre with visibility into performance by business area
  • Strategic Planning - Develop and implement strategies that increase utilisation, strengthen community engagement, support ministry outcomes and improve long-term sustainability of the Centre.
  • Venue and Hire Management - Set the strategy, pricing and partnerships that drive bookings across function rooms, dance studio, pool and gym, working to maximise use and revenue
  • Centre Partners - Grow the Centre Partner program through new partner acquisition, while actively supporting existing partners to succeed and grow their business within the centre
  • Marketing and Promotion - Build MCC Centre's reputation and visibility in the local community as a destination, overseeing digital presence, website, sales assets, community events and cross-promotion of Centre Partners
  • Community Value - Identify and deliver ways the centre can serve and add value to the local community, including events and initiatives that bring people onto the site
  • Team Leadership - Manage the Facility Manager and Community Manager directly, ensuring they are supported to do their jobs well and that the overall guest and centre experience is excellent
  • Reporting - Provide regular performance, financial and strategic updates to senior leadership and the board
  • Church Involvement - Attend church leadership and strategy meetings as a key contributor to MCC's broader direction

Experience and Background

  • 3-5+ years in a management or operations leadership role
  • Sector experience in facilities, hospitality, recreation/leisure centres or venue management strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience growing revenue, managing budgets, teams and commercial relationships
  • Proven ability to build relationships and partnerships across community, business, government or not-for-profit sectors.
  • Previous experience in church or not-for-profit environments is a preference, not a requirement

Personal Attributes

  • Strong relational and communication skills
  • Strategic thinker with a growth mindset
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Comfortable balancing mission and commercial outcomes
  • Able to lead through influence, collaboration and service
  • Organised and capable of managing multiple priorities
  • Passionate about community impact and people development

Values & Mission Alignment

MCC Community Centre exists to serve both the Church and the wider community. As an extension of MCC's mission, the Centre provides spaces, programs and opportunities that create connection, belonging and positive impact across the Sunshine Coast.

We are seeking a leader who understands that success is measured by more than financial outcomes alone. While strong stewardship, sustainability and operational excellence are important, we also value the ministry, community and relational impact that occurs through the life of the Centre every day.

The successful applicant will demonstrate an alignment with MCC's Christian values and a genuine desire to contribute to the mission and vision of the Church. They will understand how to balance sound business practices with a heart for people, recognising that facilities, programs and partnerships are ultimately tools for serving the community and creating opportunities for connection, growth and transformation.

This role requires someone who can lead with integrity, humility and wisdom, building strong relationships with staff, volunteers, hirers, community organisations and ministry leaders. They will be passionate about creating environments where people feel welcomed, valued and connected, while ensuring the Centre remains sustainable and positioned for future growth.

At MCC, we believe the Community Centre is more than a venue. It is a place where ministry and community intersect, where relationships are built, and where people encounter belonging, support and hope. We are looking for someone who shares that vision and is excited by the opportunity to help steward and grow it for future generations.
