LCANZ Professional Standards
The Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand (LCANZ) Professional Standards team assists the ministries of the church, to meet their legal and ethical obligations. There is a special focus on keeping children and vulnerable adults safe. The team seeks to empower local ministry leaders through its Safe Church training program, which is available online in both self-paced and live formats. Professional Standards is involved in handling formal complaints and supporting people in the church, in relation to disclosures or reports of risk of harm, as well as in assisting local leaders who are working through various types of difficult situations that may impact people’s safety. Further, the team addresses requests for redress from survivors of abuse.
Objective of position
The Professional Standards Analyst provides services in relation to complaints handling, allegations of harm or risk of harm (current and historical), matters pertaining to the National Redress Scheme for people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse, addressing situations involving persons of concern, compliance and stakeholder management.
Duties of position
- Managing complaints that are lodged with the Professional Standards team, in accordance with the LCANZ’s Complaints Handling Policy and Procedure
- Responding to allegations, reports and disclosures of child-related harm, abuse or disturbing behaviour within the church, in accordance with the LCANZ’s Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Policy and Procedure
- Liaising with the National Redress Scheme for people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse, regarding all aspects of the LCANZ group’s participation in the scheme
- Assisting local ministry leaders to implement robust risk assessment and management processes, in accordance with the LCANZ’s Policy and Procedure on Prevention of Risk of Harm from a Person of Concern
- Preparing resources that assist local ministry leaders to meet their legal, regulatory and ethical responsibilities.
- Undertaking other duties, as required by the Professional Standards Manager
Required qualifications, skills and attributes
- Tertiary qualifications in law or another relevant field such as psychology, counselling, mediation, social work or other human services
- Demonstrated experience in a professional standards, compliance or regulatory role
- Knowledge of legislation and regulations that relate to the work of the Professional Standards team
- High level of strategic planning, organisational and recordkeeping skills
- High level of written and verbal communication skills
- High level of interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with people across a diverse range of backgrounds
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, particularly in respect of sensitive information (a requirement of the position)
- Experience and competency using Office 365 (particularly SharePoint, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Ability and willingness to work in the environments of the LCANZ and to actively identify with and understand the needs of the LCANZ
- Completion of LCANZ Safe Church Level 1 and Level 2 training, or ability to complete the training before commencement
- Current employment related Department of Human Services Working With Children Check clearance, or ability to obtain such a clearance before commencement

- Active member of the Lutheran Church or another Christian denomination
- Sound understanding of the Lutheran Church, its people, practices and culture
Condition of employment
Agreement to comply with the LCANZ Standards of Ethical Behaviour, and with LCANZ policies and procedure, is required.

The Professional Standards Analyst reports, and is directly accountable, to the Professional Standards Manager.
