The organisation Baptist Churches Western Australia (BCWA) is an empowering movement dedicated to helping pastors, ministries, churches, and their communities say Yes to Jesus. Since its inception in 1896, when four Western Australian Baptist Churches came together to form The Baptist Union of Western Australia Inc., BCWA has grown and flourished.
Today, BCWA encompasses over 100 churches, two Camping Centres, and various events. Through this voluntary union of inter-dependence, we provide mutual support and encouragement, fostering a vibrant and empowered community.
Our extensive network partners with Global Mission and Aid agencies, Baptist Schools, Morling Theological College, Financial and Insurance Services, and BaptistCare aged and community care.
The Role BCWA is seeking a leader to assume the position of Head of Finance & Administration. This crucial role involves overseeing all financial activities and services, ensuring that the assets, funds, and liabilities of BCWA and its various ministries are accurately and comprehensively accounted for. The successful candidate will also ensure that the underlying systems and procedures are effectively managed to handle the organization's business and administrative affairs.
The Essential Criteria
The following criteria must be addressed within your cover letter which needs to be accompanied with a CV and referees.
- A commitment to work within a Christian environment and promote the vision, mission and values of Baptist Churches Western Australia.
- Tertiary qualifications in accounting or finance with Membership of the Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) or institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (CA).
- AICD, Company Secretary or equivalent qualifications
The Successful Candidate will have:
- Significant experience with support functions in a medium sized organisation - ideally in a “for purpose” or charity entity
- Significant board experience (either reporting to a board or as a director)
- Strong relationship management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership and motivational skills with the ability to manage and inspire subordinates.
- Ability to share vision and support the Director of Ministries.
- Sound understanding of information technology structures and trends.
- Robust management experience of internal and external auditors
- Significant experience within church organisations or the ability to learn quickly and apply your experience in a clear and sensitive way
- Thorough working knowledge of governance, risk and compliance requirements
- Excellent financial accounting and management skills
