Community Chaplain

Are you a compassionate person with a heart for supporting people with an experience of Family and Domestic Violence?  Lutheran Services is excited to expand our chaplaincy care into our Community Services.  This is an opportunity for an experienced pastoral care professional to provide spiritual and emotional support within a vital community service setting.

Initially, the chaplain will focus on pastoral care for staff, ensuring they feel supported in their roles. Over time, and under leadership supervision, the chaplain may extend services to clients, offering spiritual and emotional care in a sensitive and appropriate manner.

This role is up to 0.4 FTE for an initial four-month period, with the possibility of extension.

About the role:
The chaplain will support staff, volunteers, and potentially clients across two Family and Domestic Violence Refuges, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment aligned with Lutheran Services’ commitment to serving people of all faiths and backgrounds.

  • Provide pastoral care and emotional support to staff in a challenging work environment.
  • Offer a ministry of presence, building trusting relationships within the refuge community.
  • Coordinate and lead worship services and spiritual care activities as requested.
  • Develop a strong understanding of domestic and family violence issues to provide informed pastoral care.
  • Maintain confidentiality, ensuring appropriate referrals and documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with site leadership to strengthen Lutheran identity and align chaplaincy services with organisational goals.
