Wayback Ltd is a leading charitable organisation providing transformative AOD (Alcohol & Other Drugs) Rehabilitation services grounded in evidence-based pharmaceutical treatment and harm minimisation principles.
Wayback was established in 1969, headquartered in Harris Park, NSW and guided by the mission of being ‘Committed to helping people with addiction find a way back’. The organisation operates 10 residential properties with a combined capacity of 46 beds across Sydney’s Western Suburbs. Wayback delivers a structured nine-month rehabilitation program, tailored for individuals aged 18 and over with a particular focus on those within the criminal justice system.
Residents live in Wayback-managed homes where they learn to navigate community life while developing long-term strategies to manage relapse triggers.
Referrals are accepted through:
- Drug Court and the broader judicial system (e.g. bail programs)
- Corrective Services (probation, parole, custodial transitions)
- Self-referral pathways
Following the upcoming retirement of Mr. Ray Brindley, who has served with exceptional dedication and leadership, the Wayback Board of Directors is now seeking to appoint a visionary, experienced and compassionate Chief Executive Officer to guide the next chapter of the organisation’s journey.
Key Selection Criteria
Leadership & Strategic Vision
- Demonstrated success in leading health, rehabilitation or not-for-profit organisations, ideally across multi-site operations
- Proven ability to deliver effective, values-driven leadership with transparency, decisiveness and empathy
Clinical & Operational Oversight
- Sound understanding of clinical care models, client case management and harm minimisation approaches
- Familiarity with the operations of NSW Drug Courts, Corrective Services and the justice system
Financial & Organisational Stewardship
- Experience overseeing day-to-day administrative, financial, staffing and property asset responsibilities
- A track record of supervising corporate reporting, compliance, risk and quality assurance systems
Community Engagement & Growth
- Capacity to build strong relationships across all levels of NSW State Government and relevant stakeholders
- A strong fundraising record including grants, tenders, bequests and philanthropy initiatives
Personal Attributes
- A deep commitment to treating every client with dignity, respect and integrity
- A passion for supporting underprivileged men and women through real life-changing opportunities
- Hands-on experience working with complex and vulnerable populations, guided by firm but compassionate leadership
